Stephen personally embraced Yoga as therapy in 1997.  His teaching began in 2000 when his teacher left to study in India for four months and honored and amazed Stephen by asking him to teach in her absence. He has been privileged to learn Yoga at the feet of some of the world’s truly great teachers.

“I studied with Beth Field for three years in the tradition of B.K.S. Iyengar.  Beth shared her skills, showed me much patience and is responsible for my becoming a yoga teacher, for which I am so very grateful. Later I studied with Mukanda Stiles, author of “Structural Yoga Therapy”. This work led me to Gary Kraftsow a Yoga master and Director of the American Viniyoga Institute and author of “Yoga for Wellness” and “Yoga for Transformation”.  The last nine years have been full of the most wonderful teachings from other world renowned teachers like John Friend, the charismatic and deeply inspiring founder of Anusara Yoga, and, Aadil Palkhivala, a brilliant and kind man with a wealth of knowledge who has shared it freely and with much humor.   Judith Lasater PhD. a physical therapist and Yoga teacher for 30 years whose deep understanding of the body has been a blessing for me.

In the last few years Doug Keller has inspired and deepened my understanding of Therapeutic Yoga and how to teach it without ego. I am profoundly thankful to all these teachers for any skills I have developed.” Ongoing studies with these amazing teachers and others continues to inform, encourage and inspire Stephen.  His work is also supported from outside of the Yoga world, including 15 years in private practice as a Massage Therapist. Trained in anatomy, deep tissue massage, craniosacral therapy and Ortho-bionomy.

Elizabeth BarlowELIZABETH BARLOW

Elizabeth Barlow, has been practicing yoga for 35 years, and has been teaching for 17 years. As a yoga therapist, Elizabeth is passionate about guiding students to learn how to self-adjust with yoga, allowing students to find their way through injuries, pain management, structural issues, neurological challenges, and body/mind stress.

She is trained by Namaste’ International, a program that teaches yoga in the style of Vanda Scaravelli, and studied with Esther Myers. In the past 17 years, she has studied with Gary Kraftsow, Judith Hanson Lasater, Mukunda Stiles, Doug Keller, and Tias Little among others. Elizabeth is co-founder of Tulsa Yoga Therapy along with Stephen Saunders.

Elizabeth has been teaching movement to children for many years and is Founder/Director of Resource Education for Calming, Energizing, Self-awareness and Self-regulation (RECESS+). RECESS+ has been teaching self-regulation using yoga techniques to both children and adults in schools, shelters, and residential programs since 2007.

Bodywork by Elizabeth:   Elizabeth has been a bodyworker for 17 years and  is trained in and practices many bodywork modalities to complement the use of Therapeutic Yoga including, Naturopathic Manipulation, Craniosacral Therapy, Touch for Health, trigger point therapy, and rehabilitative movement.  Recommended for existing or chronic pain, structural imbalances, muscle tension and stress.  Call Elizabeth at 918-200-9642 for an appointment.

REN BARGERRen Barger

Ren discovered “yoga” via a Seventeen magazine article at age 12, and has shaped her worldview through the lens of Yoga ever since.  At age 20 she enrolled in study of the Iyengar system with Johnny Gilispie in Chicago, committing to daily practice in complement with her fitness and self-study goals.

At the end of that year in 2004, a traffic accident while cycling resulted in her breaking seven bones and undergoing a traumatic brain injury, spinal-vertebrae fusion neurosurgery, and confinement to a wheelchair for two months. Ren was told by amazed surgeons that she survived the crash thanks to the flexibility, strength, and skeletal alignment resulting from her yoga practice, and she has since focused her practice for therapeutic recovery: motility gain and pain management.

After moving to Tulsa, the place of her birth, in 2006, she met and began practicing with Stephen Saunders (and his teacher Beth Field, who has made an indelible impact on her development in many areas of study) and Elizabeth Barlow.  Ren became certified in Yoga Ed and worked with Elizabeth as a RECESS+ teacher in 2011, and began assisting Stephen with Workshops and teaching at Tulsa Yoga Therapy in 2012.

In 2014, Ren had the great pleasure of taking her training and teaching to the next octave after exposure to the Bowspring system developed by Desi Springer and John Friend. Her Wednesday night class is her offering to share of all of the wisdom she has gained from Stephen and Elizabeth, with a forward-emphasis on the technology realized through Bowspring, “a dynamic, revolutionary postural template for optimal health.”

Ren promotes Yoga for all bodies to create peace and to achieve freedom from suffering.
